Teresa
has combined her artistic skills, graphics education and retail display
experience in a career spanning over 20 years.
Teresa
became an illustrator and graphic designer in the children's gift industry,
working as one of the few American designers employed by the Japanese
firm, Sanrio, Inc. Sanrio also offered Teresa the opportunity to continue
her work in visual merchandising where she excelled in creating colorful,
fun window displays for the Sanrio brand in both company owned GiftGates
in California and New York and at the annual Gift & Toy tradeshows.
Looking
for a wider spectrum of design challenges, Teresa opened her own design
studio in 1988. Since then her work has included illustration, graphic
and visual design for both print and internet output and a client list
which has included Saks Fifth Avenue, The University of California at
Berkeley, HeartMath Institute, The Compton Foundation and The Internet
Shopping Network.
An active
member of the Graphic Artists Guild, Teresa hosts the monthly Saturday
Afternoon Drawing Salon, a free public event which encourages participation
and socialization in the creative community.
Today
as a Sketching and Visual Design Instructor on the San Francisco campus
of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, Teresa's sense
of style and humor are the tools she uses on a daily basis. Her preferred
media include paper and paint, big sheets of foamcore, a Mac G4 and
of course the street, where other peoples cast offs are reborn as art.
